What is the Home to School Transport Policy?

The Home to School Transport Policy aims to provide guidance for parents/carers, young people and young adults on transport assistance available for pupils aged 3 -25 years of age.

Why is Warwickshire County Council consulting?

Warwickshire County Council is considering a number of changes to the current Home to School Transport Policy. Parents/carers, children and young people, professionals and other members of the public are asked to comment on the proposals.

Why is the policy being changed?

The policy is being changed for a number of reasons:

  • To update the policy in light of recent legislation
  • To revise non-statutory duties
  • To ensure consistencies in the transport policy

All proposed changes are compliant with the Education Act 1996 and subsequent legislation.

What are the proposed key changes to the policy?

The proposed key changes to the policy are briefly set out below, further information on these proposals can be found in the Consultation Document here . Warwickshire County Council is consulting specifically on these changes.

  • Unsafe Walking Routes – a list of the effected routes can be found in the Consultation Document here

We are aware that some routes are missing from this list, please bear with us whilst these are identified. We will contact any affected families directly in writing as soon as possible to clarify the situation.

How can I take part in the consultation?

You can take part in the public consultation in the following ways:

By attending a consultation drop-in event (details of all events can be found in the Consultation Document here .

The closing date for responses to the consultation is midnight on Thursday 2 November 2017.

Following the end of the consultation we shall publish the results and this may include quotes of comments which will be anonymous. If you reply to an anonymous survey then no personal details will be captured. 

Information you provide in any additional correspondence to our surveys and consultations, including personal information, may be disclosed in accordance with the Freedom of Information Act 2000 and the Data Protection Act 1998. If you want the information that you provide to be treated as confidential, including your contact details, please tell us why, but be aware that, under the Freedom of Information Act, we cannot always guarantee confidentiality.

All consultation responses will be analysed and a report will be published and presented to the County Council for a final decision early in 2018.
