Consultation on the proposal to provide additional places for learners with SEND at Round Oak School, Warwick

This consultation is being undertaken to advise you of proposals concerning Round Oak School, Support Service and Sports College and to invite you to tell us what you think of the proposals. This is part of a statutory consultation process that Warwickshire County Council is managing in partnership with the Governing Body. The proposal is:

  • To create approximately 28 places for learners with SEND; exact numbers will be dependent on the individual needs of the pupils placed. The current number on roll at Round Oak School is 148 pupils.

Why Change?

Countywide there is a growing demand for Special School places and existing provision is at or approaching capacity.  There is an urgent need to create additional capacity for learners with SEND with more complex needs in the Warwick area by September 2018 and this proposal will help meet that demand.

Building Consequences

In order to accommodate the additional pupils at Round Oak School there will be a need to reconfigure existing classrooms.  Warwickshire County Council Capital funds have been identified to meet the costs associated with the proposed works.

Financial Implications

The total cost of creating these places at Round Oak School has been estimated at £190,000 and approval to allocate these funds from the DfE Capital Grant was included in the Capital Programme and approved at Cabinet on 9th November 2017.  Feedback from the consultation, approval for the proposal to go ahead and approval for the allocated funds to be spent will be sought from Cabinet on 15th February 2018.

What is the proposed timetable?

  • 30th November 2017 – 12th January 2018: Consultation with parents to take into account the views expressed regarding the proposals to increase pupil numbers.
  • 17th November 2017: The County Council’s Portfolio Holder for Education gave approval for the proposal to go out for consultation. This report is available to the general public by following the link below to the County Council website:
  • 15th February 2018: If Cabinet agree to the proposals, the decision will begin to be implemented in September 2018
